The Legend of Maula Jatt, directed by Bilal Lashari and based on the 1979 cult classic Punjabi film Maula Jat, had the best opening weekend for a film in Pakistan or the Punjabi language. The film (The Guardian likened to “Game of Thrones meets Gladiator“) centres on the eponymous Maula Jatt, a strong prizefighter with a tormented history who seeks vengeance against his archenemy Noori Natt, the most dreaded warrior in the province of Punjab. In this epic tale of truth, honour, and justice, loyalties are tested, and families have been ripped apart. It Starring Hamza Ali Abassi, Humaima Malik, Mahira Khan, and Fawad Khan (who just featured in the Disney Plus series Ms Marvel). Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame) oversaw visual effects.
The Legend of Maula Jatt global Box Office report
The Legend of Maula Jatt has earned $2.3 million (Rs 18.94 crore) globally until Sunday. Over 500 theatres in 25 different countries screened The Legend of Maula Jatt, making it the most widely shown Pakistani film ever. The filmmakers also claimed that this was the widest Punjabi film distribution ever. The first weekend of the expensive film was successful, and projections are optimistic for the future.

Fawad Khan undergoes a drastic Transformation for the movie
For his role in The Legend of Maula Jatt, Fawad Khan gained 20 kilogrammes (44 pounds) to play the character. The actor said he was motivated to change by actors like Aamir Khan and Christian Bale. His decision to choose that route placed him in the hospital, and he has since come to regret it. The actor claims he did not have enough time to bulk up and overtaxed his body in the process, placing him in the hospital just days into the change.

It has also been claimed that this film has established a new benchmark for the quality of Pakistani cinema. Total international earnings came to Rs. 9.3 crore, including Rs. 4.9 crores in Pakistan and Rs. 4.4 crore from other countries.
Legend of Maula Jatt Oversees Performance
Regarding grossing money, The Legend of Maula Jatt opened at no. 1 in the United Arab Emirates, no. 6 in Canada, no. 8 in Australia, and no. 9 in the United Kingdom. Even though it wasn’t screened in every theater in the country, the film earned $5,26,902 (Rs 4.34 crore) on the home front. Since no other Pakistani or Punjabi language film has ever had a more significant opening weekend in the UK, this one did very well. It has been reported that The Legend of Maula Jatt is currently the ninth highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom.

Indian audience: where can they see it?
Since it is common knowledge that India does not allow the theatrical distribution of Pakistani artists‘ works due to tensions between the two countries, this film will not be shown in India.

However, it has been reported that Indian consumers would be able to see The Legend of Maula Jatt on over-the-top (OTT) services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video following the film’s theatrical run. Since the movie is getting such a great reception, it will be playing in theatres for at least another month, so they will have to wait. That’s why getting it on OTT will take some time.
