The film’s second act is a huge letdown. It gets out of hand, building to a climax that drags on and on and could have used the help of a ruthless editor to trim the fat.
Except for Dulquer Salmaan and Shabeer Kallarakal, none of the other performers in the ensemble get their due. The love score doesn’t carry enough weight to let Aishwarya Lekshmi compete with the male-dominated soundtrack. There are football games and battle scenes in this movie. Football is a part of the protagonist and antagonist’s lives, shaping how they view life (and crime).
Frequently, only a hair’s breadth is between “massive” and “messy.” At points, King of Kotha breaks it so obviously that the picture risks alienating its viewers. The rusted and shaky wheels the King of Kotha rides on. Dulquer Salmaan, needless to add, deserved a lot better.
