President Ram Nath Kovind honored cities and states for being clean and garbage free in the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’ at the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav program organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

In the ‘Cleanest City’ category of the Swachh Survekshan Results 2021, Indore city got the 1st place in the country, while Surat and Vijayawada got the second and third place respectively. Navi Mumbai ranked fourth in the latest survey results announced by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

What is Swachh Survekshan?

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed to make India clean and open defecation free by 2 October 2019 as the first survey was conducted in 2016 and covered many cities.

The Ministry of Urban Development released the ranking of Swachh Survekshan 2021 and President honored the states and bodies doing excellent work in cleanliness. The President honored Indore as India’s cleanest city for the 5th time again where as Surat and Vijayawada were given the second and third prizes for the best clean city.Chhattisgarh has got the honor of cleanest state.

After this Jharkhand stood second and Varanasi was given the award for the cleanest Ganga city.Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh with more than 100 urban local bodies have been declared the second and third cleanest states in the country after Chhattisgarh in the state category. In the category of states having less than 100 urban local bodies, Jharkhand ranks 1st, followed by Haryana and Goa.
