Karnataka Election Date 2023: The full schedule for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections was released by the Election Commission of India on Wednesday. The 224 people in the Karnataka Assembly finish their terms on May 24. As soon as the election dates were announced, the Model Code of Conduct went into effect.
In the current Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has 119 MLAs and the Congress has 75. The Janta Dal (Secular), which is an ally of the Congress in the state, has 28 seats.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar says that ECI is committed to holding elections that are open and fair. Karnataka has about 5.2 crore voters, and more than 12 lakh of them are over 80 years old. In a first, the Election Commission will let people who are disabled or older than 80 vote from their own homes.
This time, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, the Election Commission will set up 58,282 polling places all over the state. Out of these, women will be in charge of running 1,320 polling places.
Kumar said that 240 polling places will be turned into “model polling places.”
In Karnataka, the number of people voting for the first time has gone up by 9.17 lakhs from 2018 to 2019.
